Kia was started in South Korea and still maintains headquarters in Seoul. More specifically, Kia was created in the Yeongdeungpo-gu district in southwest Seoul, Korea. A Short Kia History

Did you know that Kia didn’t actually begin in the automotive industry? Kia initially manufactured bicycle parts and steel pipes by hand.

• Once the company garnered success in the steel industry, they began producing whole bicycles in 1951.
• In 1952, the company adopted the name “Kia.” Kia then began manufacturing motorcycles.
• Kia began making commercial vehicles by 1962.
• In 1992, Kia dealerships began cropping up in the United States.
• By 1995, America boasted 30 Kia dealerships across the country.
